DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. wxii12 news-- Highway Patrol troopers on Friday released details of a traffic crash Thursday afternoon that killed two people and injured another.

Troopers said a vehicle driven by 62-year-old Patricia Bradham Bennett, of Pfafftown, was headed west on Interstate 40 near the Farmington Road exit when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed through the center guardrail before overturning and skidding into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle then struck three vehicles that were headed east.

Bennett died as a result of the crash, troopers said. A man in one of the other vehicles, Arnold Giovanni Cortez, 69, of Winston-Salem, was also killed, troopers said Friday. A third unnamed person in another vehicle was injured. The nature of those injuries wasn't released.

Troopers had no information as to what caused Bennett to lose control of her vehicle.

The crash, which happened at about 1 p.m., blocked the highway while crews cleaned up.
