Davidson County Community College art student Kasey Newark recently won first place in the school's Student Summer Art Exhibit for her acrylic painting “Staircase.”

The Mocksville resident plans to transfer to Appalachian State University and become an elementary school art teacher.

She was among 23 students whose paintings were selected to hang in the DCCC Student Summer Art Exhibit consisting of more than 120 works.

The exhibit will be displayed on both floors of the Mendenhall Building on the Davidson campus through August 2.

Lexington art student Andrew McCarn won second place for his “Pear Study” watercolor painting and Sheree Lanier took third for her acrylic self-portrait “Hello.”
